Doha Air Quality
Monitoring System : Gap Analysis for the
Supreme Council for the Environment &
Natural Reserves (SCENR)
Our objectives were to identify areas for
improvements with the existing Air Quality
Monitoring stations and to share ASMA’s
experience with SCENR.
Air pollution sources are rapidly increasing
in Doha due to rapid development in and
around the city:
|
Road traffic emissions |
|
Aircraft emissions (airport is located
close to the city) |
|
Fugitive dust from construction &
reclamation activities |
|
Industrial activities (petrochemical,
oil & gas, cement, etc) |
|
Power plant emissions |
|
Natural source (occasional sandstorm) |
With rapid economic development, comes
the associated environmental issues (eg.
air quality) which must be managed properly
to avoid air pollution & public health
issues from happening
An effective Ambient Air Quality Management
(AAQM) program requires a reliable,
accurate and wide
coverage Air Quality Monitoring
(AQM) network to establish baseline air
quality of the city, to track the trend
of deterioration in air quality, to study
public health effects & exposure, to
identify hot spots (using mobile air monitoring)
of air pollution.
