PICORP Received Visit From Deputy Mayor of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Shah Alam, Tuesday, 25 April 2006 – Progressive Impact Corporation Bhd (PICORP) hosted a one-day visit by the Deputy Mayor of Jeddah, Engineer Khalid Akeel and his advisor, Dr Fadil Basyyoni. In this visit, the guests had the opportunity to see the operations of PICORP’s subsidiaries, Alam Sekitar Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (ASMA) and ALS Technichem Sdn Bhd (ALS Malaysia). A dialogue with the Department of Environment (DOE) Deputy Director General, Dr. Ir. Shamsudin bin Hj. Ab. Latif between the Saudi guests was also held to exchange information on the DOE and Jeddah Municipality’s challenges on managing the environmental issues and enforcing environmental requirements.

ASMA is one of the major environmental monitoring and consultancy company in Malaysia providing services to the public sector (particularly for the DOE) and private sectors (covering energy, petrochemical, general manufacturing, construction and waste sectors). In particular, ASMA operates a large network of continuous and manual ambient air quality and river water monitoring stations via a 20 years privatization concession. The concession also includes operation of the Environmental Data Centre (EDC) located at its office in Shah Alam. The guests were also briefed on ASMA’s key role in monitoring the environmental conditions of the Putrajaya Lake and Wetlands.

In line with the strategy to diversity its services, ALS Malaysia will be providing lubricant testing services to the transportation, construction, mining, marine, oil & gas and manufacturing sectors.

IC is actively pursuing business opportunities related to environmental projects in the Middle East. Recently, ASMA was awarded an environmental consultancy project by the Jeddah Municipality to conduct air and water quality assessment studies at the international city. Last year, ALS Malaysia has successfully expanded their operation into Indonesia and has since secured a number of environmental laboratory projects from multinational mining and oil & gas companies.
