I will be writing about biodiversity. Here’s my first piece:
First of all, I do not have any idea what to write. I just want to share my sadness. In my younger days, our family enjoyed camping, picnics, fishing (eating fried fish that we caught with nasi putih) at Bukit Belacan (one of those hidden gems in Kuala Lumpur), Sungai Congkak, Sungai Pertak River and others. Not only the crystal clear river, these areas also offer a variety of habitats for plants, animals and microorganism. However, soon, this green and blue jewel will lose its charm (if not seriously protected).
Our forest biodiversity is increasingly threatened as a result of deforestation, fragmentation, climate change and other stressors. In a layman’s terms Biodiversity means the variety of plants and animals living on Earth. I am not antidevelopment, but development should also take into account biodiversity. Are we aware of the impacts of the future development on biodiversity? The understanding of how urban development/expansion in the country likely to affect its habitats and biodiversity is limited. Our urban forest is shrinking. It's not wrong to make progress, but do not go wrong. The destruction of biodiversity is unlikely to be recovered. Thefore PROTECT THEM before it is too late.
